The General Manager, Lagos State Coconut Development Authority (LASCODA), Mr. Dapo Olakulehin has paid a courtesy visit to the office of Mrs. Umul-Kulthum Ninilomo Bashar, the newly appointed Executive Secretary, Lagos State Law Reform Commission (LAWRECOM).
Speaking during the visit, Mr. Olakulehin, congratulated the new Executive secretary on her appointment, stressing that one of the reasons for the visit was to explore more ways of strengthening the existing relationship between the two parastatals.
He solicited the assistance of Mrs. Bashar in reviewing some laws impeding the full realisation of the benefits inherent in the Coconut Value Chain to the Lagos State Economy, adding that her predecessor was briefed about the challenges before the change of guard.
The General Manager affirmed his belief that LAWRECOM has already commenced work on rectifying the identified laws, adding that he wants the new Executive Secretary to hasten the process so that the Coconut Value Chain can improve on its contribution to Making Lagos a 21st Century Economy.
Responding, Mrs. Umul-Kulthum Bashar, the Executive Secretary of LAWRECOM, thanked Mr. Olakulehin, and the members of his team for the courtesy visit, expressing delight that the Agency has declared its readiness to consolidate the existing relationship between the two parastatals.
Mrs. Bashar observed that due to the continuous development of every aspect of human life, some laws would gradually become obsolete and outdated, as such, there is a need to continually reform the laws so as to ensure that it keeps on being relevant and dynamic to the socio-economic environment.
While noting that the request for the review of some laws is not peculiar to LASCODAin the Agricultural Sector, she, however, promised to expedite action on the reform process.
